Family Devotions Ideas

The Lord has burdened my to have a Deuteronomy 6:7 family. Here are a couple ideas that might help if you are looking for some ideas for family Bible time. As parents we are commanded to teach our children and what better than straight from the Word of God! The Christian school is great but we should not rely on it to teach our children the Bible; it is the responsibility of fathers to carry out this task. Although these are great ideas, if you do nothing else but simply read scripture, that will get the job done on its own.

"Deuteronomy 6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes."

Here are some ideas for family devotions:

  1. Go through the Psalms chapter by chapter and use the book, "The Story Behind the Psalms" which can be found at the following link online: http://www.baptist-city.com/Books1/The_Psalms.htm
  2. Use a Chronological order of the Gospels and read part each day detailing Jesus' life and ministry.
  3. Read the daily entry for "This day in Baptist History" which book you can order at this link: http://books.faithmusicmissions.com/index.php?act=cart-productdetail&ref=10228&pid=1&ProductID=1869
  4. In past we ordered a devotional book set from Faithforthefamily.com which worked very well.

"Faith for the Family" also has a passage and questions that can be answered online.
